I was a grad director for an IR program for a decade and was always surprised when people wanted to work for State or the UN because they wanted to (a) travel, (b) live overseas, and/or (c) wanted to work for an NGO.

Please stop looking for jobs at the diplomacy department if you don’t know what we do and aren’t particularly interested in enabling it. Go join the human resources department, or the travel authorizer department, or the stupid asshole department instead.
