chopper literally joined a crew of monsters while worrying he'd be feared for being a monster. he's literally the least scariest of the crew HAHA even everyone who joined after has a scarier reputation; robin the devil, franky the cyborg, brook a fkn skeleton, jimbe warrior of the sea and fishman.

AND THEN WHEN ACE LEFT FOR HIS JOURNEY LUFFY WAS ESSENTIALLY LEFT ALONE BECAUSE the bandits cant understand how he feels with sabo ...

to an extent you can actually say that luffy never recovered from sabo's death ... on top of ace's promise to not die before him ... which resulted in the massive breakdown after the war.

on the other hand, luffy and ace spent a LONG time instinctively looking for sabo, turning towards him during training and arguments and *everything* dadan's a fucking mountain bandit, makino doesnt see them often, chief doesnt really care

hiriluk died on chopper yes, but chopper had support through that grief. luffy had emotionally stunted ace and dadan LMAO doctorine isnt the most emotionally intelligent but well. she's very experienced and was able to "fill" the void left by hiriluk

also "luffy's not a whiny baby" yeah he is 💀 he's also better at being optimistic because it was either be optimistic or fucking die from garp's "training" he literally got the tears beat out of him lmao

honestly all of coward trio are like that: they scare easily because they arent used to confrontation, to fighting. usopp honestly has less of an excuse since he's the sniper and also his timeskip location was kinda dangerous, whereas chopper and nami were *studying* how to better navigate/doctor

arguably he grew up as one of the more sheltered members of the crew, alongside... usopp probably also rather sheltered, possibly moreso? he didnt kill his parental figure after all. everyone else lived either with their life on the line or always fighting. and also some members inherent fear lol

"chopper should act like the grown man he is and not a whiny crybaby" he's 17 *post-timeskip* ffs, he grew up being scorned and excluded, and later *saving people* not fighting on the frontlines with his life on the line for everything he does.
