I was just talking with my dad this past weekend about how the PC's arrival completely devastated the mainframe industry in such a few years. (He was a COBOL expert on Sperry-UNIVAC's VS/9 systems) Also how IBM released the PC without a spreadsheet, despite that being the killer app of the day.
