That was always their business model, not a recent thing. Basically a cheap rotary knife plotter with a crappy SaaS subscription attached that needs to be always online or it stops dead. Awful.

I checked, and this was a couple years back, but they did try to put a limit on the number of prints you could do on the machine without a subscription. I think they rolled it back after the outcry? So this is probably not why people are trying to sell them, but they are greedy as hell.
