Ukiyo-e (Pictures of the Floating World), is a genre of Japanese art from the 17th-19th centuries that has produced and inspired some of the most treasured woodblock prints.
I also share bits of Japanese culture.

I like to share contemporary Japanese artists from time to time on this feed. #YukoShimizu (b.1965) combines her Japanese heritage with contemporary reference points. She's won the Hamilton King Award, 2 gold medals & 2 silver medals for the Society of Illustrators.
I love her work! She used to be a great follow back at the old place. She posts some of her stuff online here: yukoart.com/category/work/
WorkYuko Shimizu
Yuko Shimizu Award winning Japanese illustrator based in New York City and instructor at School of Visual Arts.
She is one of my favourite contemporary illustrators who can, somehow, produce something that is timelessly traditional while being badass punk.
I like the bottom two v much, thank you.
These are so cool. Are these woodcuts?
