I did wonder if it was too obvious a choice for this, but then remembered it’s obvious for a reason. Was lucky enough to see them perform the entire Christmas album at the Union Chapel in London a few years ago, which was quite the gig.

A similar excited thrill surged through me when I was in Washington and saw a sign for the Sleater Kinney Road that they’re named after. Because either a) Sleater-Kinney are just that amazing or b) I have a very low excitement threshold. Possibly both.

They’re both properly great albums, but didn’t really get the attention they deserved - probably because they were too far removed from the Sugababes to get that initial traction - but you are now lucky enough to make a difference in that respect. Go on! Be the change you want to see in the world!

Her solo stuff was originally performed under the anagramatic Shanghai Nobody name, as she wanted to avoid the “ex-Sugababe” tag, but both Revolution in Me and her second album Ghosts were so different to her former (and now current band) that they’re not really comparable, but are something special

(And trying to track anything down about them on Google is stymied by the fact they assume you are simply bad at spelling and are trying to look for something else entirely when you type “corsettes sexy and blue” into the search bar)
