To protect the HMD from the gel, I'm using disposable shower caps (like the ones you find in hotels) on top of the EEG cap. I have not yet found a satisfying way how to reduce pressure on frontal electrodes. Colleagues who are doing VR+fNIRS have modded an HMD, cutting out some of the housing.
