I was wrong. They had to get the rights from novelist Georges Arnaud, who wrote the original source material, Le Salaire de la peur, and Arnaud had a longstanding feud with Clouzot. Friedkin offered Clouzot a percentage of the film's shares, for which the French director was thankful.

Too few even know about that film. Some say it is a remake of "Wages of Death" but Freidkin denied that.

Can you also do a Brummy accent? I was in Birmingham a couple weeks back and found it more difficult to understand than Glaswegian! (Writing accents well is a skill.)
