Bluntly I think there is a large contingent of people who do view transness as a political ideology and whose identities reflect a rejection of aspects of their assigned gender or a lack of strong attachment to it rather than a desperate and overwhelming need to escape a body that is killing you.

Associating it with political lesbianism isn't far off the mark because much like political lesbianism was about rejecting the patriarchal oppression of heterosexual relations this version of trans seeks to reject the toxic aspects of one's assigned gender through a partial rejection of said gender.
