figured out a clean way to get meters per pixel in shaders!!

the meters per pixel value can be calculated by 2 times the clip space w coordinate, divided by ( width in pixels times the absolute value of the projection matrix entry P00 )

previously I was using hacks like "let's sample 1 meter to the right and get the screen space delta", but today I wrote all the math out and simplified, until it reduced to this super clean formula c:
