Teams of people who are not paid are very unstable. People need a reason to work. If they're not working for money, then it's because they desire a specific result. When disagreements happen about the direction of the project or if the end result just isn't worth the tremendous effort, they quit.

I can't see why they would get annoyed. They would only choose to add more members to the team if they needed them. Unless a clueless manager decided to hire someone without consulting the team.
