Shout out to my coworkers that enable me to make comics at work for work. Our work doesn’t HAVE to include comics but they’re a good learning tool! And they know I love them! 10/10 supportive colleague behaviour.

Gonna slowly re-build my ✨Art Tips that have Saved My Life✨ thread since we don't have bookmarks here and I constantly forget how I did a thing 🧵

So excited to finally reveal the cover for my graphic novel Strange Bedfellows and announce that it's open for pre-orders! Releasing March 4th, 2025. 🔗 in thread!

The cover of the graphic novel Strange Bedfellows by Ariel Slamet Ries. The illustrated cover depicts two young men floating in a bedroom unbound by gravity and linking pinkies. From above, painterly dream apparitions descend. The apparitions include: a lion's paw, the scaly body of a dragon, a giant tardigrade, a mushroom, a frog, a fish.

Sorry to hear that. I found having a scheduled time once a week to work on projects with friends helped me get out of a long creative slump. Even if sometimes all we do is chat about our projects, the accountability and progress being made (however slow) has been motivating!

Hello new followers. If you like werewolf-western-horror-romances, then here's an Ignatz award-winning comic that *I* invented and that *you* can buy and pay me enough to keep drawing: www.olivia-stephens.com#/darlin/www.patreon.com/oliveoilcorp

Cover for Olivia Stephens’ werewolf comic, DARLIN’ AND HER OTHER NAMES, PART 1: MARTA.

The limited-color illustration depicts a greyscale foreground filled with tree stumps. The only thing left standing in the desolation is the shape of a woman, her face shrouded in black shadow with two yellow eyes peering out. She wears her long hair around her shoulders, and her dress is covered in red blood. She also wears a large overcoat and a bag strapped around her shoulder. She’s barefoot. Behind the woman are misty hilltops covered in trees.

Above the woman’s head reads “DARLIN’ and her other names”. “DARLIN’” is rendered in old-timey western lettering in all caps. The insides of the letters resemble woodgrain. “And her other names” is rendered in loopy cursive. Below the woman’s feet are the volume name and author’s name rendered in the same cursive handwriting: “part 1: Marta”, and “olivia stephens”.
A black and white comics page rendered in fountain pen and Photoshop.

The silhouette of a woman moves through a deeply forested area. A large tree bisects the page, splitting a panel that depicts water rushing in a stream. The woman's face is covered in blood and her eyes glow a dim yellow.
A mostly b&w comics page.
Panel 1
A bandaged hand turns down an oil lantern until it's dark.

Panel 2
A man crouches in the darkness. He speaks to someone: Can you see like that?

Panel 3 A woman's black silhouette stands in a doorway. Barking comes from outside.

Panel 4 The woman turns back, revealing yellow eyes. We can't see any other facial feature. She replies simply: Yes.
A black and white comics page rendered in fountain pen and Photoshop.

Panel 1
A woman with long, thick hair faces away from the reader, framed by heavy foliage on either side of her. She addresses someone offscreen: "...In a few ways. I'm strong. I can smell things. Hear people comin'. Sometimes it's harder. All together, I'd say it's about the same. Can't say why I do it, but...You ever..."

Panel 2
The woman turns to face the reader, a complex emotion crossing her face. Dappled light creates a halo around her. She continues:
“You ever get sick to death of bein’ a person?”

Panel 3
The camera lands on the person she’s addressing: a man with chin-length hair, sporting a busted lip and a black eye. He doesn’t know what to say back to that, so he says nothing: “…”

Panel 4
Back to the woman. She’s smiling sadly. She finishes the conversation for both of them: “Mhm. You know.”
