comparing our moral purities is meaningless, I think. a losing game. if you only look at white settlement in the immensity of its past and present and protraction you see a wasteland. but in moments themselves, everyone has choices.

we still talk about settlers from back then. we make sure they stay part of our stories. they didn't change the world, but they didn't have to. they just had to choose. that's what we remember from then and that's what we respect today: what, in the face of everything, people choose in their now.
