If you remember the VHS release, the upper part of the sleeve had a clear window on part of Keanu Reeves' head where you could see through to the tape inside. There was a video rental shop on SE Belmont that put packing peanuts inside the sleeve, so that's what you saw in Keanu's head.
I wanted to walk out after the beach scene. It was so upsetting it made me feel physically ill. The rest of the movie was so strange and intermittently beautiful.
So as bad as I remember then?
Just wait for Pam Grier as a trans woman🙄 It’s not great but could also be much worse.
I absolutely loved this movie when I was a kid. Rewatching as an adult… not so much. Donald Pleasance remains perfect as the cowardly-then-deranged POTUS. Did you know there is actually a sequel ‘Escape From L.A.’? It is objectively terrible but you should probably watch it anyway.
