... a leader ? Are there characters, and how are they portrayed ? Not to mention what they depict of the real world... And yet, in spite of all of this, to be "successful" they would require the players to disregard the context. Do you know of any writings on the subject ?
It seems to me that the paradox runs even deeper then. To me ( but that's debatable), games are political in the broad sense of the term. You follow rules agreed upon, resulting of the designer's choices : is there a conflict ? Are there exchanges ? do you use a currency ? follow ...
That makes me curious : in your view, is this inherent to games or is it a game design trope ?
