“but how would a downtown arena disincentivize driving???”
When we first heard about the arena proposal, my gf’s (and a lot of other people’s) first reaction was “where will people park?!?!” They wouldn’t. They’d take public transit. That’s the point.
Ok but those times are a little unfair that's the Schuylkill we're talking about
look at all the red for the driving directions on the schuylkill expressway lol
Penn, that’s right, U of P, killed the idea of putting a Phillies stadium over the rail yard at 30th street. How awesome would having a downtown baseball stadium have been…and now this. Why can’t we have nice things?
if u really wanna piss people off put the bike times lol
I don’t know why everyone insists they need parking for an arena. There’s virtually no parking that doesn’t cost a kidney by Fenway and the Red Sox do fine. The reason the sports complex needs so much parking is that it’s out of Center City and closer to 95 so it’s easier to drive from the suburbs.
The other unsaid thing about Chinatown is it's in trouble on its own, even if they don't build the arena. So you need a separate plan to help Chinatown anyway.
