I think one of my least favorite tropes in fantasy are absolutist paladins. It's such a deadend concept: Aside from some real deus ex machina, there's no way for them to comfortably operate in a world where the powers that be aren't as absolute as them and eventually they gotta realize that.

Agreed! It’s kind of a fun character arc to see them realize that though, imo. Ursula Vernon’s paladin romance series is a lovely example.

Lawful Stupid has always sucked. They recently remade one of my favorite characters from an IP as lawful stupid and she just might as well not exist anymore as far as I'm concerned.
