Sometimes I'll just suddenly think about Silphium, the cryptobotanical herb that was a staple of Ancient Greek and Mediterranean medicine and cuisine all the way until the 800's AD. So valued for every part's uses it went on coins and had poetry written but nobody even knows what plant it was today.
