I remember thinking, when the former president was gaining in the primaries, that a Black woman who conducted herself as he did could not get elected as a small-town dog catcher, let alone secure a major party's presidential nomination.

Not a novel observation, I know, but for me it made palpable and concrete what I had accepted as a more theoretical matter: just how much race and gender (and class) privilege allow the absolute worst white men to accomplish - and get away with.
