She enlists the help of the only female stand-up comic in ancient mythology, whose name was lambe after the rude iambic jokes she recited. Demeter finally bursts into laughter. Iambe the comedian gave her name to the poetic meter that the Greeks always used for poems of insult and satirical abuse; it probably had its origins in prehistoric festivals, in ritual obscenity and jesting.
