(Thread) In 2014 I moved from Borneo to Scotland and ended up in a house on the edge of the Highlands in a small country community. Within 20 minutes of arriving we were greeted by our 75 year old neighbour Barbara with a thermos of tea, two china cups and the genteel bellow "DO YOU RIDE?" (1)

As a foreigner who moved to a small town in the Scottish highlands in 2014 I just imagined this scenario with my elderly neighbour Audrey and it works just fine. Audrey gives my kids a pound coin each every time she sees them and calls the coins "pennies".

I assured her that I did know my way around a horse, but it had been quite some time. This was satisfactory. I was then commanded to pop down the lane to her house to meet "The Boys" once I had unpacked. Curious and needing to return the thermos and teacups, I did. (2)
