Hear, hear!

@stengel: Regarding the "poisoning of the blood"—the whole point of America is that we do not have and never have had a common blood. We do not have and never have had a common religion, or a common ethnicity, or acommon heritage. What we do have is an uncommon set of ideas, that all people are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That, and not our blood, is what makes us Americans.

The very notion of a particular nation having a "common blood" to begin with is an absurd re-imagining and hyper-essentialization of history, genetics, ethnography, and doubtless several other areas of learning. It is a notion steeped entirely in violence, capital, and exclusion, not fact.

A society that wastes its energy on "purity" us missing the opportunity to gain strength by assimilating people with different views and different skills.

Except thay it's not true. Many Americans believe that not all people are equal, have rights etc. Way too many.

Our roots are in direct democracy, not in concentrating power and then voting on it.

They think of the European colonisation of land as a form of imperial conquest, where only one culture and people is valued. However, historical empires were themselves diverse. The one they gush over (Rome) was especially so.

The fact that a candidate for presidency is directly quoting nazi ideology at this point and that he's STILL ALLOWED to run is absolutely insane. I don't get it. It makes no sense.

Exactly. We are lost if we do not strive for the standards we put forth in our Constitution. Standards that we are still working toward, but can be swiftly fleeting. We’ve committed atrocities on our own soil, it is always a breath away. “Indian” schools, Japanese-American internment, Roe..a breath.
