Technically it’s possible for a very deep weapon detonation to contain everything. Tunnel and hole shots containment worked fine at least most of the time. But mushroom clouds directly implies fully vented, whether it’s nuclear or conventional explosions. Can’t get there without venting….

No existing weapons can bury themselves that deep. They’re only earth penetrating to couple the detonation energy better into the ground.
