Prop's to Twilio's CEO: Amazon calling back staff to the office 5 days per week raises the question at every other tech company if they'll do it. Telling staff that nothing changes until the CEO remains in-place is bold: but also wonderful for retention + recruitment.
There should be a variety of plans from all kinds of companies, and no company's decision should impact the next one's decision, as they should optimize for what's right for their business and the employees they aim to recruit and retain. WFH policy is one facet, not the entirety of the discussion.
Genuinely don't get why they want people in. Do they have shares in commercial property companies? Middle management can't justify their existence without breathing down people's necks? Remote is cheaper AND better for morale AND productivity!
