In 1944 & 1945, Kittel helped hide Dischereit’s mother & sister, who as Jews were persecuted by the Gestapo & threatened with death under National Socialism. They were liberated by American troops in 1945. Dischereit will be talking about her search for the family of the rescuer.
Dischereit is joining us for a reading and discussion (in English) about her current exhibition 'Who was Fritz Kittel? A German Railway Worker Decides, 1933–2022'. This very special event is generously supported by the Schröder Fund 🙏
All are warmly invited to the Cambridge German Graduate Research Seminar and Section Research Colloquium, who are joining together this term to welcome the distinguished writer Esther Dischereit to Cambridge: 📅5 February 2024 ⏰5pm 📍Webb Library, Jesus College Cambridge
To kick us off, ICYMI: We are immensely proud to announce the publication of a special issue of German Life & Letters on ‘Sharon Dodua Otoo [@sharondoduaotoo.bsky.social] – Literature, Politics, Possibility’: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/toc/14680483...
Inaugural post! We've finally made it here and hope to build a base of followers who are (understandably) not so active on the other site! Please spread the word that we're here and watch this space for news on our activities in German at Cambridge 🙏
