Employers (both unionized or not) have been used to a labor market where worker leverage has been on the wane since 1980s. This means managerial practices emerged and grew in an environment quite different from the present one. This disjuncture contributes to labor relations failures and strikes.

In a correspondence audit study, we find evidence of hiring discrimination in Flanders (BE). Contextualising the results, non-Flemish applicants face little discrimination in non-profit or large organisations. There is partial support for less discrimination in low-contact and 'bottleneck' jobs.
