My only hot take on this is that if we have somehow lost Mauritius (Commonwealth country, quite Anglophile, most stable & successful African democracy, legal system backed by the JCPC) which is our most natural ally in Africa, our diplomacy is cooked.

There is of course a counter argument that our actions have gained an ally in the area, secured the military interest and disposed of some uninhabited islands we cannot do anything with.
