I started playing it but noticed that it has a lot of text and weird consequences. Is that the general tone of the game? (I am still in the hotel)

yeah its completely text driven + exploration. Skill checks and dialog choices have meaningfull consequences. avoided it because of all the text for ages too but let me tell you the writing is indeed very very good :)
