Amen. Walking away from a TT position was very hard for me because of the implicit "security". However at the same time we were getting apocalyptic warnings about drops in enrollment, cuts to departments, etc. By and large the TT security is an illusion.

Yep. And even if I had been able to keep my position, my wages would have continued to stagnate and fall behind the rising cost of living here. We didn't have a reliable raise system in place and the promotion ladder is so short unless you go up into admin, which is a hard pass for me.
