Unpopular opinion but I think the Winter Fuel Allowance should be scrapped completely. Its the wrong mechanism to deal with what is in reality abt profiteering by energy barons. We have an energy price cap, we need to use it, and lower it.

Yes, but increase state pensions to a level that allows a pensioner to live. Anyone with excess will pay some tax, simple and probably cheaper to administer.

For context in 2017 the Tories had a manifesto pledge to scrap the Winter Allowance and change it to mean testing.
