What it means is that there is no such thing as an unimportant election, so vote every single time or you’ll end up desperately trying to convince new generations to fix your mistakes.
but i ate yesterday, how can i be hungry today??? there are new challenges every day bud
The first presidential election I could have voted in was Carter/Reagan in 1980 but I didn't know or care enough about the stakes to be bothered. And then we had eight years of Reagan that laid the groundwork for everything that followed. Don't be me.
Voting is (for most) easy and free, and leaving that power unutilized is foolish
Exactly! It’s because we didn’t take those elections seriously that we are in this predicament.
My local state senate election ended up being about congestion pricing and IMO it was pretty important Gonzalez won in a landslide because it left no ambiguity about what NYCers wanted!
this is very good, thank u
2000 was a clear sign of the fuckery to come, and we didn't take it seriously enough.
I'd like to to back to those 2016 "burn it all down" folks who wouldn't vote/ask them how the turned out (esp in Texas or Florida) My Twitter TL was PACKED with gen z voters furious over Gaza/organizing but couldn't get motivated for what's happening in their states I said something = crickets
Both are painfully true.
Local elections really matter every time! How do you wind up with school boards who ban books? By not paying attention to your local races and not voting in those March or August elections
