I think we really neglect how close we were to having a mob publicly murder elected officials and because it didn’t happen, it’s easy to downplay how serious the day was. (I say this every time because it keeps being true)
I was certain more people were going to die! The photos emerging from the Capitol certainly augured that direction of things (while also being kind of ridiculous, Q Shaman etc)
When said plainly it is just damning that the President of the United States summoned a mob to Washington DC and sent them to lynch Congress and his Vice President in an attempt to make himself dictator. And Republicans made him nominee again!
I can't get the image of this guy out of my head. He had a plan. He prepared, probably trained on this scenario. Those zip-tie cuffs had an explicit purpose in mind.
It was a matter of minutes and feet. Sen. Josh Hawley ran like mad because the danger was real.
I was watching the live coverage over Zoom with a 7th grade class (ah, 2021) and I was like...oh...I actually have no idea whether they're about to see people killed in the Capitol building and our government fall we should turn this off.
This. I don’t think people realize how close things were to getting REALLY BAD.
Sometimes I wonder how things would have played out differently if Mitt Romney hadn't run into Eugene Goodman on January 6th.
