This is true and extremely important, but it’s important to emphasize that the United States has a history of this exact violence and repression, and we can see how bad it got from this side of the Atlantic.

The US history of genocide is not as recent as Naziism, but on Indigenous Peoples Day (today) and every day, we should remember it. The horrors of Jim Crow, which ended well after we defeated the Nazis, directly inspired the Nazis. And America First was originally Americans supporting Nazis.

Nazis got their ideas from white America. My family was killed by Nazis, I think it’s important to point out the parallels AND understand that eugenics was primarily a US-British invention meant to promote white supremacy. It’s easy to point at Germans and say we’re better, but they studied us.

this is why I'm wary about using 'fascist' for Trump in that it assigns Trumpist violence and hatred to a foreign (if historical) infiltration separate from 'real' America - which is nonsensical when you recall how much of Nazism was inspired by America to begin with
