Happy birthday to my friend, Lt. Governor Aruna Miller. I couldn't ask for a better partner in this work and Maryland couldn't have a better LG. I speak for the whole administration when I say we are so grateful for the thoughtfulness and dedication you bring to work, each and every day.

Our entire state grieves for the victims of the fire in northwest Baltimore that took the life of one firefighter and seriously injured four others last night. My full statement:

Governor Wes Moore’s Statement on Baltimore City Firefighters Injured and Killed in Line of Duty:

Our entire state grieves for the victims of the fire in northwest Baltimore that took the life of one firefighter and seriously injured four others last night.

My heart goes out to all those affected, including the victims’ families, friends, and colleagues. We are praying for the swift recovery of those still being treated for wounds as we mourn the loss of EMT/Firefighter Rodney Pitts, III, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

My team has been in close contact with the Baltimore City Mayor’s Office, the Baltimore Fire Department, and the International Association of Fire Fighters in the wake of this tragedy. We will continue moving in partnership to protect the lives of our first responders, no matter where they serve.

We must address the bigotry that continues to permeate our society and turn away from divisive rhetoric. We must turn toward deeper love and understanding within our communities. Let me be very clear: Hate has no place in Maryland.

We are living through a moment when thousands of innocent Palestinian and Israeli civilians are suffering and grieving, both overseas and at home.

Outside of the Middle East, we have seen how this violence has given rise to division and acts of hatred and violence directed towards both Muslim and Jewish communities.

In Maryland we do not—and we will never—tolerate hatred. Not toward Muslims. Not toward Jews. Not toward Christians. Not toward anyone. Now is the time for us to stand together in love and community.

We are encouraging Marylanders to help combat hate in their communities:

If you are in immediate danger, call 9-1-1

If you witness or experience a hate crime or hate incident, you can make a report by dialing 1-800-492-TIPS

For concerns related to schools, dial 1-833-MD-B-SAFE

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In 2023 alone, it is estimated that 5,760 Marylanders will be diagnosed with breast cancer. For 31 years, @MDHealthDept's Breast and Cervical Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment Program has treated Marylanders with breast cancer.

We are grateful that Congress was finally able to reach an agreement that will keep the government open. My full statement:

Governor Moore’s Statement Regarding the Passage of the Bipartisan Bill to Keep the Government Open:

“The bipartisan effort led by President Biden to keep the government open has prevented an unnecessary crisis and is good news for Marylanders. This unneeded shutdown would have devastated thousands of Marylanders and millions of Americans.

Though the deal is imperfect, we are grateful that Congress was finally able to reach an agreement that will keep the government open.”
