Bluesky needs to plug into Altmetric in order to gain more traction in academic circles #academicchatter
Is this like a score for academic articles or people who write them?
Does anyone still look at altmetric? Hard to still make a case in the current social media climate.
Sadly, this is true - in the UK at least, University wonks often seem obsessed with Altmetric scores as a metric to use to justify all manner of things… #academicchatter

Totally agree. Academics being academics tend to get hung up on the number, but there is no better resource for finding paper authors or people reading similar stuff as you on a platform. Would be a fabulous tool to build science community here and see who's active.
Nah. Seems inevitable but I hope not. I like not thinking about altmetrics anymore. Also, as they are only very weakly correlated with realised article impact, we should be pushing back against their use in academia for anything bar a bit of harmless ego boosting.
