Both things can be true. I think your concern about overhyped AI as a magic fix for everything is very valid. And the Nobel prizes mark some excellent work, esp the protein folding, which uses a complex mix of classical coding and some advanced ML (AI). We'll have to wait for the hype to die down.

Your article could have gone further and noted that change will be needed to take advantage of whatever these new shiny things really offer. Without the change part of a digital transformation we risk bolting the equivalent of a modern printer onto a pipeline that starts with monks and caligraphy.
