This is missing the point. The issue is not a single headline or poorly written article. It's how these problems collectively highlight the institutional rot at NY Times and larger publications. Will wants this to be a small issue, but it's not. These outlets are fundamentally broken.

all of which is to say: by all means, critique the NYT! critique wapo! hold them to account when they lapse into lazy both-sidesism, horse race punditry, sanewashing. but can we just chill w/ the constant freakouts about how this or that headline or word choice is the thing that's gonna elect trump?

And I should caveat that my last line is mainly about the political/opinion desks. The NY Times and Washington Post still do a lot of good coverage, but the way they cover political issues is broken.
