I was thinking that John Singer Sargent painting of his friend's dog was doing way better numbers than that amazing painting he made—when he was 19!—of two octopuses entangled on the deck of a Brittany fishing boat, but I realize I hadn't skeeted it greg.org/archive/2024...

two glistening octopuses in brown, grey, and white, are all arms intertangled on a brown and black wood deck in a scene that feels honestly a little invasive to watch, maybe give them some privacy, but that's just how john singer sargent painted them in 1875, when he was 19, and visiting brittany for the summer, dreaming of painting and maybe hanging with a local fisherman, instead he was stuck with his lame family ugh
