Our typical URTIs are a minor cough for almost everyone. Only people with very significant comorbidities develop complications like pneumonia as a result. Covid is having a larger, direct, effect on more people, and on those without significant or meaningful comorbidities.
Lucky (incompassionate) you. Minor coughs have little effect on the country or society. Covid has a larger effect on a larger amount of society. As the original post makes clear, it's not appropriate to treat covid in the same way as minor colds.
You claimed it was wide ranging perspective though. Or do you accept that for many people covid is not "just a cough"? I mean, there's all the dead folks for a start.

One advantage from lockdown is that we're set up to wfh now. I could at least work through it without infecting co-workers, even if i was only at 50%.
