If you're super rich and want to live a long life, best bet is to ensure society remains functional, safe, and fairly wealthy for as long as possible ie don't make the masses want to hunt you down for your hoarded goods

I'm cynical, but I think it's in their interests to keep society juuuuuust right at the edge before collapse, to maximise their profits while keeping people from rising up

It's bloody sad. In documentaries about NZ back in the 50s and 60s, we were openly proud that the rich weren't too rich and the poor weren't too poor. That ethos has been systematically dismantled over the last 40 years.

...or for causing or encouraging or delaying action against the catastrophe which killed their friends and families. (Basically, I wouldn't want to be a fossil fuel shill in 10 or 20 years time. Or right now, in NC)
