They're trying to push the idea that we "need" to not own our games to move away from physical media. Which is horseshit because you can absolutely own purely digital copies of your games, DRM free games have been a thing since forever.

This is fine for a persistent world like an MMO where a subscription is access to that universe. But I feel like that isn't what they mean here because folks have been comfortable with the MMO subscription model for decades.
