I'm sorry, but maybe you're referring to Windows, aren't u? Being all open means everybody (programmer or not) can grasp it and try. It may not be as fast as it could, but being open is a great step away from closed-source insecureness.

I've given this no more than 2 chances, but it never seemed to be an option. More than 10 years Linux only, and only once tried to have a Windows VM, on VirtualBox. As I've said before, with terrible result. Linux only for more than a decade, and there is always something new about it! Amazing!
