Oh for f**k's sake. I am a very tired litcrit person, and this whole era of "no new ideas ever" is grinding down my soul like a silicon carbide power sander.

It's especially weird here because we're in an era where it's very possible to take that story's [blatantly obvious] subtext and just make it text. And there's a lot to play with thematically, too. I don't know how anyone could miss the point (or the boat) THAT badly.
