The big question to me is, how long was it gone before anyone noticed? Clearly nobody called in to say “I can’t get your station.”
Tangential, but I never miss a chance to tell this story: Poland had an antenna tower that was the world's tallest structure until 1991, when it fell over during incompetent maintenance. Headline in a national paper the next day: "It was the tallest, now it's the longest!"
