Maybe they just went all out because this is from the pilot, but this is exactly as well animated as their 90's movies are. Gargoyles is beautifully animated.

I don't think every episode is animated with this much fidelity. Maybe reserved for the pilot and a few others throughout the season. I watched Goof Troop a few years back and some animations looked like movie quality while others looked like they were animated with a potato.

Oh yeah, the animation was markedly better in the pilot for sure, but even in the regular episodes they’d usually give us a couple of flexes every now and then. Most of those Disney Afternoon shows had shockingly good production values for TV animation because they made so much money.

The pilot was technically a VHS movie before they turned it into a series. I used to have the VHS tape, and the box it came in that had one of those board games you had to play using another VHS tape. 😁
