Oh, I don't know--maybe they could, and this sounds crazy, actually ask people who were actually on them? And maybe publish their responses somewhere? No? Too much work?

I read the satire in the post; I want to say as someone who is disabled and on benefits, it is NOT EASY to get them. There’s forms, there’s evidence, there’s waiting, all while ailments. However, when done, these benefits provide a sense of agency that allows life to flourish.
Government funding works off the prosperity gospel. The wealthy are rewarded with riches because they are moral. The poor are punished with poverty because they are immoral. The rich are never means tested. They don't trust poor people. It's that simple.
My middle class relatives & friends who help elderly parents apply for Medicaid when parental assets run out are shocked, SHOCKED by 1) just how much work it is to gather, submit, apply & get approved; 2) just how badly applicants are treated by overworked staff at decrepit, under-resourced offices.
I've never been able to get food assistance except for when I was nursing, through WIC. I often had to live off $100 bucks a month for food for me and my son to afford medicine, rent, and electricity. I was too rich because I had a car, you see.
no joke tho if you look at it nutrition wise shellfish (that’s not, you know, infused w toxins) goes pretty hard against other proteins for the cost!
