Today I learned this: In 1936, almost 30% of the capital held by the bank of New South Wales was profit from the sale of gold during the 1850s gold rush.

I have many questions! Is this deposits from numerous depositors? Or a couple of large institutions? If the latter, why leave it on deposit with the bank? This is a really striking stat!
