My daughter's 8, and loves comics, love series like Lumberjanes, Hilda, etc., but there's not much for her at our local comics shops, which are heavy on superhero and adjacent stuff. Booksellers and the library are much better bets.

That's definitely been an interesting development; the OGN market (particularly for kids, middle grade etc) has exploded, but that's largely a book market phenomenon. There's surprisingly little overlap.

I’ve been trying to get my nieces and nephews into comics and it’s surprisingly hard even though they love a lot of the graphic novels I’ve gotten them. When I was their age in the early 90s, the direct market was absolutely paved with on-ramps for tween and early teen boys.
