I hate that style is even an issue subject to trends in this way. My old codger rant (not involving politics or blinkers) may become the entire current tendency to insist that books follow an exact recipe of style, genre, and included tropes to even be considered by huge swaths of readers.

Important reminder, while we're on a break - Trump is absolutely incoherent tonight. We see it. We know it. But don't be surprised or disappointed if it doesn't trickle down to a lot of casual voters. Debates traditionally don't sway elections. It's important for us to still do the work.
