WFLA reporting "life-changing" rain in St Petersburg, and that this is a one in a thousand year event. I'm really worried about my friends who live not far from Tropicana Field. What a nightmare. 😰

I've been watching live coverage and footage of both Helene and Milton. It's insane. Heard a tree branch hit Paul's apt building but it seems ok. Still waiting to hear about condition of house. Friends haven't checked in yet, so I hope they're hunkered down.

What a harrowing night. Over a foot of rain in St Petersburg so far. Had word from someone who stayed who said there was "a little" flooding. Uhhh...? Water treatment plants have shut down, not sure about power. Not looking forward to the scene tomorrow morning. 😢

I can't help but be in full panic mode about Hurricane Milton. This photo was taken at North Shore Park in St Petersburg FL in April. So serene and beautiful. My partner is there now, due to fly out tomorrow (fingers crossed). We have friends who are staying. Hoping for everyone to be safe. 🪶❤️

Tonight will see 527 million birds on the move in the US according to birdcast.info One of them will be this Northern Parula, on its way to southern Mexico or the Caribbean. I observed it today in NYC as it loaded up on tiny insects in preparation for the trip. 🪶

A Northern Parula raises its wings as it take off from a bare branch.
